Lucy Powell MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Education, commenting on the Education Select Committee report on Regional Schools Commissioners, said:
“This report goes right to the heart of what is wrong with this Tory Government’s approach to our schools system. Ministers are obsessed with school structures, at the expense of focusing on driving improvement in education for all children. As a result, the system for oversight of schools is now so fragmented that standards are being threatened, problems in schools are going unnoticed and unchallenged, and some children are dropping off the radar and ending up in harm’s way.
"The Government urgently needs to take action to ensure there is a robust system of local oversight and accountability for all schools, regardless of their type, so that communities can be sure that all children in their local area will get an excellent education.”
