Last week Lucy launched an exciting new project to support young unemployed people into work. The project is being run in partnership with Communitas, the learning & development arm of Community trade union.
The launch event took place on Friday at Manchester City Football Club and the project, ‘Our Community’ is a pre-employment initiative developed to combine learning and work experience to provide young people with the tools they need to access the jobs market.
The project is being delivered in partnership with local Jobcentre Plus and colleges / providers of specialist employability programmes. Lucy was joined at the launch event by local employers who are keen to take part in the scheme.
“We have to get to grips with youth unemployment and I am pleased to support this project which aims to give young people the support they need to get in to work.
“It is more important than ever that young people are supported to get the skills that they need.
“This Government have done nothing to help young people get the skills they need. Labour have pledged to create 80,000 new high quality apprenticeships by the end of the next parliament, and introduce an Apprenticeship Guarantee whereby every school leaver who gets the grades can start on a training scheme.”
