Lucy was delighted to officially open the Yes Job Club, a social enterprise which matches local people with employment opportunities and volunteering vacancies. The service is run by Northwards Housing and Manchester City Council in partnership with Manchester College, the National Careers Service, Manchester Adult Education Service and Manchester Credit Union. Yes will continue to build links between employers, training services and local people.
Since the doors opened on August 28, Yes has had 300 people register through its website (http://www.yesmanchester.co.uk/), and in 2 months 11 people have secured full-time employment.
"I was very happy to formally open the Yes Job Club and I hope that local residents will be encouraged to use this service. It was great to hear from some people who have already been helped by the project. It's very welcome that the residents of Newton Heath have access to support to find work and training, and I will be pleased to hear that Yes is continuing to build links in the community and helping people to find jobs in the future."
