Lucy Powell MP “doubly pleased” at Manchester’s two stops on the High Speed rail line

Lucy_Powell_0.jpg.ashx.jpgManchester Central MP and Transport Select Committee member Lucy Powell has welcomed the announcement that Manchester will get two stops on the new HS2 route.

The Government today published the route of the high speed rail HS2 and confirmed that there will be stops at Manchester and Manchester Airport. Journey times to London are set to fall to 68 minutes and 74 minutes between Manchester Airport and Heathrow.

Lucy Powell MP for Manchester Central and Transport Select Committee Member said

"This is great for Manchester.

Not only will journey times to London fall to just over an hour but I am doubly pleased that Manchester Airport will be perfectly placed to develop even further as a key hub.

Now that the route is confirmed we should start to see the benefit of increased investment in Manchester. I am determined to keep a close eye on the project to make sure that the Government doesn't fall behind and threaten that investment.

Labour designed this in Government and pushed for it in opposition and with all of the doom and gloom still surrounding the economy, I am glad that the Government have finally supported something which will encourage growth."
