Manchester Central MP Lucy Powell has criticised George Osborne for failing to steer the economy back to growth and for committing to reducing the living standards for the poorest in society.
Chancellor George Osborne used his Autumn statement to announce that benefits will be uprated by just 1% a year until 2015 and was also forced to announce that the Growth forecast for 2012 had been downgraded by the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) to minus 0.1%.
Manchester Central MP Lucy Powell said:
Despite failing to deliver growth, Osborne’s answer today is more of the same.
He has shown yet again that he has no clue how to get our economy growing and that only answer is to punish the poorest in our society and cut yet more services. His dangerous experiment with the economy is failing but he refuses to think again.
Osborne has failed on two fronts. He has failed the test of competence by failing to deliver growth and the test of compassion by making the poorest pay for his mistakes.
