Lucy visits the DIY SOS Veterans' Village in Newton Heath

etydstg.pngOn Friday, Lucy visited Canada Street in Newton Heath, to meet the DIY SOS team who are transforming empty houses into new homes for veterans' and their families.

Hundreds of Manchester building firms and tradesmen have been helping out with the project, which is supported by veterans' charity, Walking With The Wounded. Gorton Horticultural Society have also helped to create new gardens and are setting up street-planters along Canada Street.

Lucy said:

It was fantastic to join the DIY SOS team in Newton Heath in my constituency today for their huge and ambitious project to use empty homes for veterans. The vision of Nick Knowles and the team, with the help of Manchester City Council, is inspiring. I can't wait to go back and meet the new residents and see how the long-standing residents are enjoying it.

Thanks to the hundred of trades people who have given their time and expertise to this amazing project.

Make sure to look out for the show on October 14 and 21st on BBC1 from 8pm!
