I welcome the news that the government has confirmed it will not be renewing its contract for Concentrix to administer tax credits on behalf of HMRC. Since taking over the contract Concentrix have made a string of mistakes and their reign of terror has resulted in a number of my constituents having their Working Tax Credits stopped incorrectly.
The Government had awarded Concentrix with a £75million contract in May last year in an attempt to save £1billion in incorrect or fraudulent tax credit payments but there have been widespread reports of failings on their part which they have been incredibly slow to put right. I have found Concentrix to be slow in processing complaints and my constituents have found it extremely difficult to communicate with them.
One of my constituents has been without their Working Tax Credits for more than 7 weeks and is struggling to provide for their family despite providing evidence to reverse the decision. Concentrix had stopped their working tax credits because their system wrongly showed a previous tenant as living at the address. I have a number of other constituents who have had to depend upon their families and friends to provide food for their children because of the mistakes made by Concentrix.
It is simply not good enough to make families vulnerable because of errors and for Concentrix to lack any urgency or sympathy when dealing with these cases when the error has been made by them. I am glad that the contract won’t be renewed but having accepted that Concentrix are not up to the job, the Government need to sort this mess out now as my constituents cannot wait until May 2017.
