Lucy Powell MP Lucy Powell Labour MP for Manchester Central

Lucy Powell MP visited the Campfield development to see first-hand how the Grade II listed buildings are being transformed into a cutting-edge tech, digital, and creative industries hub. This ambitious project, made possible through a partnership between Manchester City Council, the Government, and the private sector, is set to bring new opportunities to Manchester while preserving its rich heritage.
The iconic Campfield Market Halls, dating back to the 1870s, are undergoing careful restoration to retain their historic character while being repurposed for the future. Manchester City Council, in collaboration with Allied London, is investing nearly £20 million to turn these historic buildings into a thriving media and tech district, located between Deansgate and Spinningfields. As part of the redevelopment:
- Upper Campfield will become a 2,420m² digital hub, featuring office space, film studios, and editing suites for media and creative businesses.
- Lower Campfield will be a 5,570m² incubator space, providing affordable workspaces for tech start-ups, helping innovative businesses grow and thrive.
This regeneration project will contribute to Manchester’s booming local economy, create new opportunities in the tech and media sectors, and breathe new life into a historic space. The development builds on the success of Manchester Goods Yard and the wider Enterprise City plan, further solidifying Manchester’s status as a leading hub for innovation and creative industries.
