Lucy Powell MP has announced exciting plans alongside the Council and local businesses to unlock the potential of Newton Heath by getting investment in and improving Newton Heath’s district high street. This regeneration is a great opportunity to provide opportunities for the local community to create the new vibrant beating heart of Manchester’s communities.

There is a wide range of opportunities here including providing new high quality, affordable housing, a new public square and better public spaces that are more welcoming, safe and enjoyable. The improvement and expansion of community facilities such as the library and healthcare facilities. Furthermore, the introduction of measures to improve and make it easier to get around for those on foot or by bike will create a more vibrant high street by also enhancing the shopping environment.

Newton Heath residents are encouraged to get involved and provide feedback on the investment they would like to see in their district centre through a consultation. Collaborating with local people to have their priorities in the long-term development of Newton Heath’s high street is crucial to realise the facilities and services that are essential to their community. This initiative presents a valuable opportunity to revitalise the local area and enhance its appeal as a shopping destination, library, and hub for various activities, while simultaneously providing essential services.
