Lucy Powell MP marked International Women’s Day 2025 by celebrating the record number of women in Parliament and highlighting the need for continued progress in gender equality.

Speaking a the day earlier at the Caribbean African Health Network’s IWD event, Lucy discussed the challenges women face in healthcare, particularly within minority communities, and praised the work being done to address inequalities.

Lucy also used the day to encourage more women to get involved in politics and leadership, stressing the importance of representation in decision-making.

Lucy Powell MP said “This International Women’s Day, we celebrate the incredible women leading change across Manchester—from our communities to both Manchester and Oldham councils. Progress worth celebrating, but there’s more to do. I’m also really proud of this photo celebrating the record-breaking number of women MPs elected in this Parliament – 263. It’s not quite 50:50 but we are getting there.”
