I have been contacted by a number of local residents concerned about the installation of masts by IX Wireless in Newton Heath. I have written to residents setting out the actions taken, as below.
Frustrations raised include: the size & visual impact of poles; potential obstructions on pavements affecting wheelchair users & pedestrians; & poor communication from companies carrying out the works.
I share resident’s concerns and like you am deeply frustrated not to have been consulted on these plans as your MP.
I am working on this with your local Councillors & have contacted the Council to raise resident’s concerns over whether proper planning process was undertaken by IX Wireless. Residents have raised masts at Troydale Drive, Thaxmead Drive, Assheton Road, & Ivy Graham Close.
Unfortunately, I have not had any communication from IX Wireless on the installation or location of these masts. So please do let me know if there are any other masts you are aware of at: lucy.powell.mp@parliament.uk.

I have also written to the Government on the wider policy issue, asking:
- for a review of current permitted development & prior approval framework relating to telecommunications infrastructure installation;
- for a review of existing mechanisms to ensure that companies installing this infrastructure engage directly with communities and minimise disruption;
- and how local authorities could be better supported or empowered to address cases where installations cause clear problems residents.
